THE CATSKILLED CRAFTERS “VERSO-RECTO” BOOK PROJECT

(c) 2019-2020

Gail Freund, who had invited me to this Catskilled Crafters group in March 2019, had written this description of the “VERSO-RECTO” Book Project in Fall 2019:

Because of the distinct personalities of all involved, the beauty of the project lies in the diverse range of interpretation of each theme. A few examples:

Polly Vos, who is 94 finished her book first and used felt and embroidery. Berns Rothchild wanted to make a tactile and glittery “adult Pet The Bunny” book. Pamela Martin, who used to have an antique textile business recycles antique fabric and embellishes on top. Hedi Kyle uses stencils and mixed media. Gail Freund paints on fabric and incorporates heavily embroidered sections. Each theme in Ros Welchman’s book focuses on a portrait of the lake by her house along with a haiku poem. Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes, who is a tapestry artist, spins and dyes her own wool. Each page in her book is woven. The group hopes to finish the project in Spring-Summer 2020.
