TIKVA  (c) 2022. Tapestry, Scripture, 28″w x 18″h

This Hebrew word TIKVA translates as “hope”.  But Tikva is more than just wishful thinking.  It represents the sure and steady release, relief, and rock solid expectation that one is rescued, as by a long rope dropped into a deep well for the individual to grab onto and be brought to the surface.

In Joshua Chapter 2, verses 15-21, Rahab, having the promise of safekeeping for herself and her family, by Joshua’s two spies once Jericho was sacked, lets down these two spies by a red cord.  Her act, their promise, and this red rope, prefigure Jesus’s identification as the True Vine of John’s Gospel, Chapter 15, verse 1.  We need both the rope and vine which point to the individual’s salvation provided by Jesus’s crucifixion and resurrection.
