I attended SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City 1974-1976 as an evening student, and had her for several semesters as I grappled with the mathematical complexities of threading a loom and learning how to read weave patterns with confidence.
Winter Stream, (c) 2000, Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes Studio
Because of her, I was able to purchase second hand a LeClerc Jack 4harness floor loom and start my weaving business by 1980. Almost 2o years later, after my family and I moved to the Catskills Region of New York State, she came to my Roxbury (Delaware County) Studio when I participated in an Open Studios Tour…..I was floored and thoroughly surprised by her visit. And, her words of encouragement for my tapestry “Winter Stream” motivated me into the art of weaving tapestries.
