EVE (c) 2022. Tapestry, Scripture, 25″w x 16″h

This view of Eve is after she and Adam have been turned away from the Garden of Eden for eating the apple.  The ambiguity in this image leaves the viewer to decide whether she regrets her sin, or is shamed that she no longer can enjoy the painless existence in Eden.  Either way, she has lost her birthright.

Or to quote Madeleine L’Engle (Walking on Water, p. 19) “One of the great sorrows, which came to human beings when Adam and Eve left the Garden was the loss of memory, memory of all that God’s children are meant to be.”
