WHY I AM A WEAVER

FALL FROM GRACE — FALL INTO GRACE (c) 2025

This tapestry series, which was featured at the Redeemer W83 Gallery, New York, January – April 2025, presents an overview of the Bible’s GOOD NEWS.   May I encourage the viewer to assess his or her relationship with God by asking ‘where is God in my life?’.

The following quote is from Madeleine L’Engle, who writes in Walking on Water:  “The journey homewards.  Coming home….That’s probably the chief difference between the Christian and the secular artist–the purpose of the work, be it story or music or painting, is to further the coming of the kingdom, to make us aware of our status as children of God, and to turn our feet toward home.”     SOLI DEO GLORIA

STUDIO VIEWS

Wm Blake in his Auguries of Innocence reminds us  “To see a World in a Grain of Sand, And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand, And Eternity in an hour.”  My tapestries and artworks reflect my inspiration comes from the Catskill and Hudson Valley regions.l

PURSUED BY LOVE

This new tapestry series, started in 2025, addresses both how God’s and spousal loves surround us in non-verbal ways and imagery.  Richard Foster calls us to acknowledge that “The weakness of words at best, they are broken and fragmented witnesses to God’s Truth.”  This captures so well my drive to illustrate Biblical themes and key words pictorially and with color.

The woodblock print of WINTER STREAM is an excellent example of my realizing I can create artwork that is good. More importantly I am excited by the evidence of an affinity between the woodblock grain marks that carry or resist the colored inks to the textures of the handspun dyed wools I use in weaving tapestries. This artwork started as a series of photographs of a stream in early Spring that translated successfully into a woodblock print which readily morphed into a drawing with wool (Further details: Summer 2016, Eberhardt-Smith, T.
