In the Press Release for the “BY A THREAD” Exhibit at Woodstock Artists Association & Museum, this tapestry “explores the ways in which some artists ….reject the notion that fiber art is closely associated with domesticity or tasks that are stereotypically performed by women.” This is what Juror Fritz Horstman, Curator and Education Director, Josef & Anni Albers Foundation, noted about my tapestry: “This tapestry is touching in its equal parts irreverence and sincerity. Skillfully made, it is compositionally balanced to enhance the feeling of being lost.” (quote January 25, 2024)
LOST (c) 2023, Tapestry, Scripture , 24″w x 18″h
Some of my ideas come from small doodling and sketches that serve as memory triggers and nothing else. This tapestry is just that: however, in the process of weaving this image I wanted to be very careful that the figures and their white or blue eyes did not morph into cartoony drawings.
