“A work of art should tell people what they need to know.” This quote was in an article on Tony Dow (Wally in “Leave It To Beaver” television show) who is now a sculptor and was written up in Handmade Business Artisan Profiles, August 14, 2013 (https://handmade-business.com/American-icon-tony-dow).
I believe art that has value in meeting and/or challenging one’s spirituality: we all wonder why we are here, what is the value of human life, and am I valuable or important, or loved to some one outside of myself. My Scripture-based tapestries focus on the natural beauty of God’s creation, and God’s purpose for who we are as documented in Scriptures.
Further for consideration: “The book of Genesis is an epic….begins at the very beginning…..provides us with a general history of man over some thousands of years. We see God’s good creation progressively soured as a result of man’s sin….“In chapter 12 the emphasis shifts…..we focus down to the story of a single individual….God will not destroy his creation. Instead he begins to work, through one man of his choice, and one nation of his choice, for the renewing of the world….And still the story of God’s great purpose for mankind….continues on through the pages of Scripture to the very last words of the book of Revelation” (Alexander David and Pat, eds. (c) 1973, Eerdman’s Handbook to the Bible, Lion Publishing, England, p. 127).
